I wanted to post a few more photos since we haven't had a shoot in a couple of weeks (and we're still missing a few release forms from the shoots we HAVE done). The photography is a HUGE part of the project (obviously), and I was hoping to have new intro/bio entries at least every other week or so... oh well.

I was also only going to post 1 photo per person (the one on the bio), but we've pretty much already selected the photos that we're using in the final piece-- and EVERYONE has had such great photos from their shoot... so, what they hay-- you guys are gonna get to see a few more :)

Here's the first one...

Blog Postings

At the brilliant suggestion of one of our project participants, we've decided to add ALL participants (once they've completed their in-person interview and turned-in the release form) as members of this blog!

I think reading it will be a great addition to the project blog-- and add an interesting dimension to the project itself :)

Those of you who have already turned in your release form should be receiving the invitation to join sometime this afternoon.

We're looking forward to reading your thoughts and perspectives as you have the time to post!

life's roadblocks

sorry that i haven't posted anything new in over a week... wow. i can't believe it's already been that long.

we've had to slow the pace of the project for a bit. hopefully after this week we can pick it back up again!

we DID have an interview (but no photo shoot-- yet) last weekend with Muthoni, and what a joy that was! I think we could have sat there and visited all afternoon! (If we hadn't already made dinner plans with heather's family for that evening; we probably WOULD have :)

anyway, life is kinda funny sometimes... maybe it throws obsticles our way every now and then to remind us that we're only human. i don't know, but hopefully this will only be a temporary slow-down, and we can get back on track within the next few weeks.

hope all is well, and we'll have some updates for you soon!

Project Participation - fyi

We wanted to go ahead and post this information on the blog since we've been receiving a number of new inquiries about project participation...

Step One: The online interview
We created a preliminary interview questionare as a way to get to know the women a little bit before actually meeting in person. Once your participation is confirmed, you'll be emailed a link to the survey. After you have that completed; Heather and I will email you copy of our answers to the online interview questions. We think it helps to have a basic level of familiarity with each other before we do finally meet in person!

Step Two: In-person interview and photo shoot

Once you've completed the online interview, we'll work on meeting face-to-face. Unfortunately, we are somewhat limited on the available poject hours we have each week. We try schedule 2-3 shoots in Dallas every other week and make one out of town trip (currently, either Austin or Houston) per month (usually a weekend or extended weekend).

Step Three: Follow-up

We might follow-up with some of you (as we can) throughout the duration of the project (12-16 months) for additional photos, interview time, etc.

Release Form
If you are chosen to participate in the photo essay, we'll ask you to sign a basic release form giving us permission to use the content of your interview and the photos from your photo shoot for the project and for promotion associated with the project.

In return for your time and input, we will be presenting each participant an original print of their choice from their photo shoot. As a participant you will also have the option of purchasing additional *discounted* prints-- but that is entirely optional and not required at all to participate.

Each participant will also be invited as a special guest to attend any (or all) of the gallery and/or book openings that occur once the project has been completed.

If you're interested in being considered, please contact us directly via email (see links on the right).

Hope this answers some questions! Please let me know if I can clarify anything else.
